The Waterborne Technology Platform is looking for a Communications Trainee
The Waterborne Technology Platform (TP) brings together all stakeholders from across the waterborne value chain, including shipowners; shipbuilders; equipment manufacturers; ports; energy, infrastructure and service providers; classification societies; universities; and research institutes, ensuring that research, development and innovation priorities (RD&I) and the deployment of innovations reflect both industrial needs and policy objectives. The Waterborne TP has currently 130 members from 19 EU Member States and four European countries associated with Horizon Europe.
Purpose of the job
As a Communications Trainee, you will support both internal and external communication efforts to enhance the visibility and impact of the Waterborne Technology Platform.
Your role will be split into two key areas:
Internal Communication – Engaging with our members, keeping them informed, fostering collaboration, and strengthening our community.
External Communication – Focused on two pillars:
o Key Stakeholders – Engaging with EU policymakers, industry leaders, and research institutions.
o Wider Outreach – Communicating our vision and initiatives beyond core stakeholders to raise awareness and increase impact.
Your work will directly contribute to advancing research, innovation, deployment and policy for a competitive, resilient and sustainable waterborne sector.
You will assist in content creation, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy efforts, helping to communicate our vision to policymakers, industry leaders, and the wider public. Through this role, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in EU policy, communications strategy, and event organisation, contributing to high-level discussions.

Your responsibilities
Content Creation & Communication
o Assist in the development of internal and external communication strategies to strengthen engagement with members and key stakeholders.
o Support the drafting, conceptualisation, and production of engaging content for external communication channels, including website updates, newsletters, and social media. o Contribute to the creation of key messages and advocacy materials to enhance Waterborne’s visibility and influence among policymakers, industry leaders, and the wider public.
o Help coordinate stakeholder engagement efforts, ensuring effective communication with EU institutions, industry partners, and research organisations.
Social Media & Outreach
o Contribute to social media strategy and execution, ensuring effective dissemination of Waterborne’s activities and policy developments.
o Monitor and analyse engagement to optimise content and outreach.

Your profile – Who We’re Looking For

Your Background & Skills
Currently enrolled in a university degree in International Relations, Political Sciences, European Law, Economics, Public Administration, Communication Studies or a related field. Strong understanding of EU and international politics, familiar with the functioning of the European Institutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (any additional European language is an asset).
A natural communicator – approachable, collaborative, and able to craft compelling messages.
