Description
We are looking for a TA for the course TPM030a “Introduction to Cloud as Infrastructure: The impact of the new business of computing on practice”. The course takes place in Q4 of 2025 and we are looking for someone to start working with us immediately.
TPM030a is an interdisciplinary course asking how and why the business of computing in the West, with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Apple (with NVIDIA catching), is organized the way it is and what impact this has on our societies. The course is highly interactive and requires active participation of the participants. You can read more about the course here: https://www.studyguide.tudelft.nl/a101_displayCourse.do?course_id=68291
Substantive skills: The prospective TA would benefit from some understanding of the topic. For this, it would be beneficial to have an informed interest in how software is developed and a curiosity for how digital technologies have become such powerful economic and political players globally. Some critical reflection is also desirable, i.e., a desire to think about how such powerful entities may come to break democratic and equitable underpinnings of societies.
Planning and co-teaching skills: the prospective TA should have good organizing and time management skills, ability to plan next steps and communicate these to the rest of the teaching team, and a desire to think actively with us on how to make the course exciting. Having experience using Brightspace, or curiosity in how to make it work for a seamless course experience, is a big plus.
If you join us, you will learn about cutting edge research on Big Tech as well as on how to plan teaching activities for an interactive and enjoyable learning experience. You will gain experience working in a team and seeing your education from the side of its making. To gain these insights, you are encouraged to attend at least some of the key sessions of the course.
TAs at Delft are given a 0 hour contract with FlexDelft. Depending on the workload, you will work up to 10 hours a week on the course (rarely more, and sometimes less). The TA is expected to start as soon as possible and the position will end at the end of June, 2025.
If you are interested, please send Seda Gürses (f.s.gurses@tudelft.nl) a CV and a short description of your motivation for wanting to be a TA for TPM030a. Looking forward to receiving your application.
