Description
Internship Market Study on Sustainable Energy and Innovation at Home Smart Energy (HSE)
Location: Hybrid
Duration: Minimum 6 weeks
Availability: Minimum 24, maximum 40 hours per week
Are you passionate about sustainability and innovations in energy storage and heat pumps? Do you want to work on a groundbreaking project that accelerates the energy transition? Then this internship at Home Smart Energy (HSE) is for you! Home Smart Energy is a forward-thinking company working on an innovative system for energy storage and heating, utilizing shallow drilling and an advanced heat exchanger. The goal is to provide homes with their own, sustainable "heat network," where excess solar energy is stored in the ground. This system not only enables energy storage but also prevents energy from being fed back into the grid, which will no longer be possible in 2027. HSE aims to make this system available for both existing and new homes. The project is currently in the testing phase, in collaboration with TU Delft, offering plenty of opportunities for further optimization and growth.
What will you do?
You will contribute to a strategic market research internship, where you will explore the opportunities and challenges surrounding the innovative HSE system. Several tasks are available. Depending on your study background, you can choose to respond to some or all of them—please motivate your choice in your application.
Your tasks could include:
- Comparison of Shallow vs. Deep Drilling: Research the benefits of shallow drilling (max. 40 meters) compared to deeper systems (100-300 meters) for energy storage and heat provision.
- Stakeholder Analysis: Study the perspectives of drinking water companies, water boards, and other stakeholders, focusing on surface water salinization and the system's sustainability.
- Market Analysis: Map out the market size for various sectors, such as private homes (outside heat network areas), social housing, and individuals with excess solar energy.
- Cost Analysis of Drilling Companies: Gain insight into the cost structure of existing drilling companies and the potential to integrate the HSE system into the market.
- Energy Prices and CO2 Tax: Investigate how fluctuations in energy prices and the introduction of a CO2 tax can create opportunities for HSE’s innovative system.
- Inflation and Investments: Study the impact of inflation on the required investments in the HSE system and the pricing for consumers.
- Policy and Legislation: Analyze the influence of regional and national policy, laws, and regulations on sustainable energy solutions like those of HSE.
- Financing Options: Research the views of banks and governments regarding the financing of innovative technologies like the HSE system, and how the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) concept plays a role in this.
What do we offer you?
- Learning Experience: You’ll have the opportunity to work on the future of sustainable energy and innovative solutions and learn all about market dynamics in the energy sector.
- Guidance from Experts: You will receive guidance from experts at Home Smart Energy, as well as academic support from TU Delft.
- Practical Impact: The results of your research will contribute to the strategic decisions of the company and the further development of the HSE system.
- Innovation and Technology: You will contribute to improving an advanced system that could drastically change the way we use energy in households.
- Networking Opportunities: You’ll have the chance to connect with various stakeholders and professionals in the sustainable energy sector.
What do we expect from you?
