Description

We are looking for student assistants to join the Citizen Voice project to develop an open source map-based tool for public participation, including a city dashboard. The tool enables data collection and visualisation to assess how citizens and communities are affected by urban development, thus supporting policy-makers to make better decisions for effective and inclusive urban planning. We have two open positions: software developer and dashboard developer.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for applicants who associate with the following:

for both positions
- experience in collecting, analysing and processing (geo)data in programmatic ways (e.g., using Python)
- ability to work both independently and in teams and an interest in taking ownership of projects
- well-organised in planning and execution of project tasks
- an interest in transdisciplinary research and development
- good writing, presenting and communication skills in English

for software development
- good knowledge of programming and/or software development
- comfortable with some software development tools like ‘git’, ‘github’, ‘conda’, ‘command prompt'
- some knowledge of front-end/back-end technologies will be useful e.g., Python, JavaScript, Django

for dashboard development
- experience in designing geo-data/data visualizations
- experience with web-design and/or Dash-Python is a plus
- comfortable with some software development tools like ‘git’, ‘github’, ‘conda’, ‘command prompt'
- some knowledge of front-end/back-end technologies will be useful e.g., Python, JavaScript, Django

EXPECTATIONS

You will be expected to assist in various project-related tasks, such as programming modules and setting up the software architecture; supporting other team members; delivering reports and software documentation (developer and user docs); design of inclusive visualisation and UI/UX interfaces.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

You will be paid on an hourly basis via FlexDelft.
The total number of hours is flexible.
Starting asap until June 2023.

TEAM

You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of scholars, software developers and policy-makers, implementing a case study in Rotterdam. The project is funded by Resilient Delta Initiative and is a joint effort between TU Delft (CUSP, TPM, BK, DCC) and Rotterdam-based research institute Veldacademie.
